In his address to the country on the 100th-day anniversary of his presidency, Barack Obama said:

“You know, the typical president, I think, has two or three big problems. We’ve got seven or eight big problems. And so we’ve had to move very quickly and I’m very proud of my team for the fact that we’ve been able to keep our commitments to the American people, to bring about change, while at the same time managing a whole host of issues that had come up that weren’t necessarily envisioned a year-and-a-half ago.”

There’s no doubt Obama is tackling many of the country’s serious issues.  Is he doing too much?  Probably, but it’s a refreshing change from the last president who spent much of his two terms sweeping our problems under the rug while generating a whole new set of problems by preemptively attacking other countries and doubling our national debt at a time of relative prosperity.

Obama’s Facebook Newsfeed

Posted In: Humor by Chief

News organizations like CNN have done an admirable job of recapping the first 100 days of the Obama administration.  But rarely do we stumble across a primary source like Barack Obama’s own Facebook feed.

Slate.com takes a look at Obama’s Facebook newsfeed during his first 100 days as president:

President Obama was “furious” and ordered a review of the decision to fly a Boeing 747 and an F-16 fighter jet low over Manhattan, close to the site of the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Center.  Jim Messina, deputy chief of staff, will lead the review, which will focus on “why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again,” said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs.

The jet led many panicked New Yorkers to call 911 and scramble for cover.  The incident has led to much criticism from New York citizens and politicians.

President Obama proclaimed that reaching out to enemies of the United States “strengthens our hand” and ensures our nation is a leader — not a lecturer — of democracy.

Obama said: “The whole notion was that if we showed courtesy or opened up dialogue with governments that had previously been hostile to us, that that somehow would be a sign of weakness…  There’s a good reason the American people didn’t buy it — because it doesn’t make sense.”

The Obamas have chosen a 6-month-old black & white Portuguese water dog named Bo to be the first pet.  The dog was a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts who owns several of the breed.

Obama’s daughters, 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha, chose the name Bo because first lady Michelle Obama’s father was nicknamed Diddley, hence “Bo” Diddley.

The president seemed to enjoy the intense interest surrounding the first dog.  When asked for an update on the dog selection process Friday, Obama joked, “Oh, man, now, that’s top secret.”  Obama had promised his daughters a puppy during the presidential campaign.  “This is Washington.  That was a campaign promise,” Obama told Jay Leno last month during his Tonight Show appearance.  “No, I’m teasing.  The dog will be there shortly,” he added.

They chose the Portuguese Water Dog because they are considered good pets for children who have allergies, as Malia does.

Chia ObamaWalgreens has ordered all of its stores to stop selling the “Chia Obama” immediately.  Walgreen’s spokesman Michael Polzin explained that local store managers are authorized to sell or deny products on their own.  However, the Walgreens corporate office asked all stores to pull the product from their shelves because it is “not appropriate for the company’s corporate image.”

The Chia Obama is yet another version of the Chia Pet line.  These traditional Mexican animal or person-shaped clay figurines are covered with a small green spice called chia, which sprouts to resemble the animal’s fur or person’s hair.

I have to agree with Ranter that Walgreens has run amok with political correctness.  As an Obama fan, I believe these Chia Obama are a fun way for kids to honor and remember their new president.  What do you think?  Is Chia Obama disrespectful or racist?

Although Walgreens no longer sells them, Chia Obama will soon be available on Amazon.com:
