Your tax dollars at work:  Our U.S. government has no problem spending a trillion dollars on an optional war in Iraq.  Or spending many trillions bailing out rich Wall Street bankers to reward their greed and avarice.  But when it comes to deploying a FREE, open-source Web browser on government computers?  Now you’ve really gone too far, man!

Firefox not allowed! The U.S. State Department currently uses Microsoft Internet Explorer as its one and only Web browser.  At a town hall meeting led by Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, a new State Department employee asked Clinton to “please let the staff use” the Mozilla Firefox browser.  The employee pointed out that Firefox had been “approved for the entire intelligence community,” and that it’s a “much safer program.”  The rookie’s question was met with a chorus of applause from the audience.

President Obama was “furious” and ordered a review of the decision to fly a Boeing 747 and an F-16 fighter jet low over Manhattan, close to the site of the 9/11 attacks at the World Trade Center.  Jim Messina, deputy chief of staff, will lead the review, which will focus on “why that decision was made and to ensure that it never happens again,” said White House spokesman Robert Gibbs.

The jet led many panicked New Yorkers to call 911 and scramble for cover.  The incident has led to much criticism from New York citizens and politicians.

Chia ObamaWalgreens has ordered all of its stores to stop selling the “Chia Obama” immediately.  Walgreen’s spokesman Michael Polzin explained that local store managers are authorized to sell or deny products on their own.  However, the Walgreens corporate office asked all stores to pull the product from their shelves because it is “not appropriate for the company’s corporate image.”

The Chia Obama is yet another version of the Chia Pet line.  These traditional Mexican animal or person-shaped clay figurines are covered with a small green spice called chia, which sprouts to resemble the animal’s fur or person’s hair.

I have to agree with Ranter that Walgreens has run amok with political correctness.  As an Obama fan, I believe these Chia Obama are a fun way for kids to honor and remember their new president.  What do you think?  Is Chia Obama disrespectful or racist?

Although Walgreens no longer sells them, Chia Obama will soon be available on Amazon.com:

Perhaps E.T. wanted to witness the swearing in of America’s first black president along with the rest of the world.

A CNN video shows an unidentified object flying past the Washington Monument at high speed as the crowd dispersed after listening to Obama’s inauguration speech.  It couldn’t be a jet or helicopter because there was a no-fly zone around the entire Washington D.C. area during the event.

President Barack Obama took his oath of office again after Chief Justice John Roberts flubbed it during Tuesday’s inauguration.  Roberts administered the second oath at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday in the White House Map Room.  The oath was redone to eliminate any question that Obama is legally the president.  However, according to the Constitution, Obama became president at noon Tuesday with or without taking the oath.

But the Constitution does explicitly state the language that should be used in the oath: “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
