Limbaugh’s Rant on “Obama’s America”
Posted In: Race Relations by ChiefRacist quotes are nothing new for conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. But his most recent comments show that America is not post-racial as many had hoped when Obama was elected president. Rather, racism is a festering wound on America’s psyche that continues to infect our country from within.
On his popular radio program Wednesday, Limbaugh declared that the United States needs to return to racially segregated buses. Referring to a recent incident in which two black students beat up a white student on a school bus, Limbaugh said, “I think not only it was racism, it was justifiable racism. I mean, that’s the lesson we’re being taught here today. Kid shouldn’t have been on the bus anyway. We need segregated buses — it was invading space and stuff. This is Obama’s America.”
Limbaugh continued his rant: “In Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering, ‘Yay, right on, right on, right on, right on.’ I wonder if Obama’s going to come to come to the defense of the assailants the way he did his friend Skip Gates up there at Harvard.”
Actually I would expect that Obama would say the two black students “acted stupidly.”
Limbaugh also suggested that racism itself was acceptable when he said, “If homosexuality being inborn is what makes it acceptable, why does racism being inborn not make racism acceptable?”
Of course the problem with his logic is that racism is not inborn. Children don’t become racists until their racist parents make them that way. I highly doubt that scientists someday will find a racist gene. Instead, probably the best predictor of racism in today’s society is whether the person is a white conservative talk show host.
